The Situation

Discharge Happens Faster Than Families Expect.

Someone gets a call at 10am and a parent is home by 3pm - to a house nobody has prepared.

  • No clear path from the car to the bed or bathroom

  • Equipment that arrives with nowhere set up to use it

  • No groceries, supplies, or basics ready on arrival

  • The first few weeks home are where recovery quietly succeeds or falls apart

How We Help

We Work in the Opposite Direction - Before the Discharge Happens.

Before discharge, we get the home ready: clear the path from the car to the bed, set up the bathroom, check lighting, stock the basics, and remove what's in the way of a walker or wheelchair.

After they're home, we come back. Reasons a recovery struggles often have nothing to do with medicine - they have to do with the house.

  • Coordinated timing with hospitals, discharge planners, and family
  • Arrival-day presence so the house isn't the first problem
  • Return visits through the highest-risk weeks

What to Expect

From the Discharge Call to a Steady Home

  1. Step 1

    You Call Us

As soon as discharge is discussed, even before a date is confirmed.

  2. Step 2

    We Prep the House

Path, bathroom, lighting, and essentials - ready before the car pulls in.

  3. Step 3

    We Stay Through Recovery

Follow-up visits catch what's slipping in the weeks that matter most.

Nobody told us the house wasn't ready until we were standing in it with my dad and his walker. Next time, Handled had it done before we even left the hospital.

Common Questions

About Safe Return Home™

As little as you can give us. We've prepared homes on same-day notice. The earlier we know, the more we can do - but we work with whatever time exists.

No. Safe Return Home™ is non-medical. We prepare the physical home and support the household logistics. Clinical care, therapy, and medication management stay with the hospital, home health, or clinicians involved.

It happens often. We stay in contact with whoever is coordinating the discharge and adjust the timeline with you.

Yes, regularly. Many of our referrals come directly from discharge planners who need the home side handled while they manage the medical side.

It depends on the recovery. Most families keep follow-up visits going for two to four weeks, then step down to standard wellness checks.
